Angels In Disguise
I came into this incarnation with a creative soul. Definitely not a technical one. Which just may explain why I have customer service on speed dial for a number of sites I must rely on for my work. These sites require - no, demand - that my brain operate on their level. Therein lies my problem.
Not long ago, while racing against a deadline, I had a technical situation that had me gravely worried. I feared I was about to lose something that I just could not. My life was flashing before my eyes. In my panic, I dialed up customer service. On the other end of the line was the most calm, cool and collected woman who seemed to have not one care in the world. Meanwhile, my world was shattering around me.
I must have sounded crazy to her as I tried to explain what I needed. My voice quivered, and my words got faster and louder by the second. I couldn’t stop apologizing for my ignorance. I felt stupid. When I was done rambling, her voice was smiling at me as she told me - in the most calm tone - to not worry. She said she would help me, and there was something in her demeanor that made me believe her. As I caught my breath, she began to walk me through the steps to recover what I thought I had lost. Slowly, I could feel my heart returning to normal pace as I listened to her reassuring voice telling me not to feel bad for not being technically-inclined. It was, after all, her job to handle the technical part, she said.
I recall thanking her profusely through my embarrassment. And her tone never wavered. Calm. Kind. Joyful. Assuring. I started to wonder if she was real. Since I was dealing with a tech firm, could she possibly be an artificial intelligence on the other line? I was truly, honestly questioning if she was human, which prompted me to ask this question. “Are you an angel?” Her reply was one word. “Maaaaaaaaayyyybeeeeeeee?”
One need only read the Bible to find examples of angels appearing before people in their time of need. Like the time angels appeared at Christ’s birth. Or before Peter to help him get out of prison. Or when Archangel Michael appears before Daniel and restored his strength. Angels have the ability to manifest as humans when and where they are needed.
I had the pleasure of meeting an extraordinary Episcopal priest, Kate Moorehead, a couple years ago. Talk about an angel! She has written a captivating book which details fifty times angels made appearances across both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. I’m including a link below to her book, “Angels of the Bible: Finding Grace, Beauty and Meaning” if you’d like to delve deeper into the mystery and mysticism of these powerful, magical messengers.
To this day, I wonder if that tech-savvy customer service agent was an angel in disguise. Is it possible? I think history has proven that it is.
Blessings xoxo
