Near Death Experiences

Years back, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Eben Alexander, once a neurosurgeon at the prestigious Brigham & Women’s Hospital and a hard-core science guy.   That was until he suffered a life-threatening bout of meningitis, which landed him in the hospital and ultimately a medically-induced week-long coma.  He nearly died.  While in that coma, he experienced something he likely doubted could happen to anyone without a solid science explanation.  He took a journey to heaven.

Dr. Alexander wrote a masterful book, Proof of Heaven, which beautifully illustrates his cosmic travels…travels that are surprisingly experienced by about five percent of the population, according to a brilliant new article in Newsweek.  In this Q&A piece, journalist Aristos Georgiou interviews Dr. Bruce Greyson, a specialist in psychiatry and neurobehavioral sciences at the University of Virginia.  Dr. Greyson studies near-death experiences (NDE), and the effect they have on the patient, post recovery.  Like Dr. Alexander’s book, this article is a fascinating read.  I’m including links below to Dr. Alexander’s book and Mr. Georgiou’s article.

One of my favorite points in the Newsweek article is the acknowledgement of “no going back” to life as it was for survivors of NDEs.  As a person who has experienced an extraordinary awakening experience (but not an NDE), I have spent a great deal of the past decade studying spirituality.  I have experienced heaven in a different way, and I can tell you that it is an experience that fills you up so completely with divine, unconditional love, that you can’t fathom ever going back to your prior life.  It’s almost as if you become a totally different version of yourself.  Everything shifts.  Your thoughts, beliefs, concerns.  It is impossible to see the world through your old eyes.  It raises your vibration to the degree that your thought forms change drastically.  You hold love and forgiveness so close to your heart, in a way one can’t imagine.

I believe that some come into this lifetime fully awakened.  For others like myself, and some or most of those who experience NDEs, higher consciousness is dropped into your being in a split second.  And there are others who may go an entire lifetime living a very human existence, absent of higher knowing.  It’s a personal soul experience, and not open for judgment by anyone.

Dr. Greyson acknowledges in the Newsweek article that “a lot of people are not willing to talk about these experiences.”  As the world evolves into a higher state of consciousness (it’s happening right now!), hopefully more will feel safe to share.  It’s up to all of us to create an environment where they can feel comfortable doing so.  In the end, humanity benefits from hearing their stories, as it opens more minds to the possibility of NDEs and all that exists beyond our human reality.

Please connect with the links below if you’d like to learn more about NDEs.

Blessings xoxo
